The Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse opens its latest play The Second Girl with previews on Friday, Sept. 9. Opening night is Thursday Sept. 15 and running through Oct. 8. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. The Second Girl is written by Ronan Noone and directed by MJ Bruder Munafo. It is set in 1912, with Eugene O’Neill’s play Long Day’s Journey Into the Night as a backdrop. But instead of focusing on the Tyrone family, as Mr. O’Neill did, Mr. Noone takes us downstairs, so to speak, to the kitchen and focuses on one day in the life of two Irish immigrant girls and an American chauffeur.

The play had its premiere at the Huntington Theatre in 2015, and is the recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award.
