The South Shore Community Action Council is now accepting applications for its fuel assistance program.

Those eligible will receive heating season benefits ranging from $420 to $630, and eligibility also provides discounts on electric, natural gas, and Verizon telephone bills. Those eligible might also receive free weatherization and heating system repair.

Eligibility is based on gross income and household size. The maximum income for a household of one is $33,126; $43,319 for a household of two; $53,511 for a household of three; $63,704 for a household of four; and $73,897 for a household of five.

Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2016. New applicants can apply at the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head Tribal Building at 20 Black Brook Road in Aquinnah from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, call 508-645-9265 ext. 130 for an appointment. Clients of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services can call 508-696-7563 to schedule an appoinment. Senior citizens can also contact their local council on aging.

New applicants should bring proof of income for the last 30 days for all household members older than 18, picture identification, proof of citizenship (U.S. passport, birth certificate, or Social Security card), and proof of street address. Households with the same primary heat source for at least 12 months should bring copies of their heating bills for the prior 12 months for a potentially higher benefit level. Clients in an emergeny situation should bring all information on the day they apply for emergency assistance.
