Island World War II veterans are invited to attend Heroes Remembered, a special ceremony next week honoring veterans from the second World War.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in the Hall of Flags at One Quebec Street in Fort Devens.

Dukes County veterans agent Jo Ann Murphy is arranging transportation for Island veterans who would like to attend. To RSVP or for more information contact Ms. Murphy at 508-693-6887 or mvyvetsservices@yahoo.com. Ms. Murphy needs to know by Tuesday, Oct. 20 who would like to attend.

The 90-minute traditional program will include a Color Guard and patriotic music including the National Anthem. Governor Charlie Baker will read a special proclamation honoring the state’s World War II veterans. According to information from the Veterans Administration, there are less than 25,000 living World War II veterans in Massachusetts. Ms. Murphy said she believes there are about 20 living World War II veterans on the Vineyard.

The Hall of Flags is handicapped-accessible and there is ample parking.
