The Cape Cod and Islands Commission on the Status of Women will hold a public hearing and discussion about housing security and other issues that are important to women next week on the Vineyard.

The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Public Library.

Individuals, government officials and organizations that advocate for women and families are invited to participate, and oral and written testimony will be accepted. Information gathered will be used by commissioners to help frame priorities for the organization. Specific topics of interest include earned paid sick time and pay equity, and the commission would like to hear from women interested in being elected to public office or appointed to boards and committees. The event also provides an opportunity for networking.

A panel discussion and forum about housing insecurity and stability will follow the public hearing. Vineyard Haven town moderator Deborah Medders will moderate the discussion, which will include Island Housing Trust Director Philippe Jordi.

An independent extension of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, CCICSW was established in 2009 to advance women toward full equality in all areas of life.
