This Sunday, August 30, The Rev. Brandon Thomas Crowley will deliver the sermon at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs. Rev. Crowley is the senior pastor of Myrtle Baptist Church in Newton which was founded by freed slaves in 1874 and is one of the oldest black churches in New England.

Mr. Crowley is an alumnus of Morehouse College and Harvard University’s Divinity School. In the spring of 2012, Rev. Crowley graduated with a second masters in sacred theology from the Boston University School of Theology.

Mr. Crowley’s desire to bridge the gap between the academy and the church and the practical aspects of Christian ministry gave him a vision that manifested itself in 2003 as Brandon T. Crowley Ministries, a non-profit organization focused on social justice through collaborative ministry.

The sermon title for Sunday is The Beloved Community: A Reconstruction of Organized Religion.

The organ prelude begins at 9:40 a.m. and the worship at 10:00 a.m. Union Chapel is located at the intersections of Narragansett, Circuit and Kennebec avenues in Oak Bluffs.
