The following letter was sent to the Edgartown planning board.

I have been a property owner in Edgartown since 1997. One of the things I love about Edgartown and Martha’s Vineyard is that it remains a throwback to a time in this country when life was simple and the responsibility of freedom was a part of our fabric of life. I enjoy seeing the occasional hitchhiker, teenagers piled into the back of a pickup truck, kids jumping off the bridge by Bend in the Road Beach, the note on the cash register at Stop & Shop that Bill W. owes us $45.

Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. Please do not enact bylaws affecting the use of private property to solve problems that do not exist, that chip away at the freedom we all enjoy and the fabric of responsibility that goes with it.

Thank you for your consideration in this regard.
