I am hoping my Island neighbors will donate blood on June 23, to help save lives and restock the much needed supply of blood. Why don’t more people donate blood? It truly shocks me that people in general don’t jump at the opportunity to help others in real, and life threatening situations. Personally I consider it a privilege to donate. It takes about an hour, the needle barely hurts (one minor quick prick, at most), you will get cookies and apple juice, and could save a life.

The Island has an opportunity to prove and confirm we are a great and solid community; one setting a good example of truly mindful thinking and grace. On June 23, there will be a blood drive at the PA Club in Oak Bluffs. The hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and it is crucial to make an appointment. Log on to redcrossblood.org, or call (800) RED CROSS to make an appointment in advance. This will allow them to staff the drive accordingly and reduce the time needed for you to donate. Let’s make this a record high turnout.

Donating blood is a simple way to help save lives—it’s quick and easy, and all you will feel is good. If you are able, please make an appointment for the drive on June 23. Don’t be afraid of a little prick. It may well save lives.
