A well-known Vineyard swimming coach has been breaking records herself this year in the pool.

Rainy Goodale, who competes among 45 to 49-year-olds, won three breaststroke events at the U.S. Masters National Championships in San Antonio, Tex., over the weekend of April 23 to April 26.

Prior to that, she swept three events at the New England Championships at Harvard in March and set three New England records in the process. She lowered all her month-old New England records for 45-49 year-olds (50 breaststroke in 33.12, 100 breaststroke in 1:10.62 and 200 breaststroke in 2:34.33).

Individually, she finished seventh in the 100-yard individual medley and ninth in the 50-yard backstroke. She swam on four relays on the New England Masters team for 45 and up, finishing fifth in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, 11th in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, 13th in the mixed (two men and two women) 200-yard medley relay, and 19th in the mixed 200-freestyle relay.

Ms. Goodale is head coach for the Martha’s Vineyard YMCA Makos swim team and assists with the regional high school swim teams.

“I just try to do my best every time I go to a swim meet,” she told the Gazette in a 2014 interview.
