Vineyarders working with teenagers have documented a rise in stress, anxiety and depression among Island youth. In response, the Island Wide Youth Collaborative was formed in 2013 to fill gaps in adolescent mental health services.

Last spring the Youth Task Force, a member of the coalition, brought psychotherapist Lisa Machoian, a national expert in adolescent mental health, to the Island to meet with students, staff and parents. Now the group is following up with another community presentation planned for next week with Lynn Lyons, a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist and author. Her talk is titled Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: Strategies to Break the Worry Cycle. Among other things, she will present concrete ways to help children cope with anxiety.

The free workshop will take place at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center on Tuesday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.
