I have been hearing about the thunderstorms all over the Island, but I’m not sure if Edgartown had any, or I slept through them. But I know besides myself, there are plenty of people ready for the humidity to go away.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Grace Manson who celebrated July 12; Holden Graczykowski, William Pate and Deborah Silva, who all celebrated July 14, and to Bethany Felix who celebrated her day July 17.

Special wishes go out to Ellen Blodgett who celebrated her day July 16, and to Joanne Cassidy and Margot Datz who also celebrated their day July 16.

I remember years ago, probably in the 1990s, we had a few summers where the zucchini crop was abundant and you could not leave your house or car unlocked for fear you would find zucchini there. There were so many recipes for the vegetable that you never knew where grated zucchini would show up.

Well, my point on the matter is that I think this year it may be tomatoes. The bushes I have seen are loaded with buds and lots of baby tomatoes. The cherry tomatoes and the sun golden (yellow cherry tomatoes), which are very sweet, are taking over the gardens. So get out your recipe books and look online for things to do with tomatoes as you never know if some may show up at your door.

It is July again so Jimmy Santos, with his wife, Patty, arrived Thursday for their annual visit with Edgartown classmate and former neighbor Pat Tyra and her husband, Harold Bauld, on Shurtleff Way. As usual, Jimmy has timed his visit so he can enjoy the annual Yacht Club Regatta and the O.B. Portuguese Holy Ghost feast and parade. Of course, they all will enjoy lunches Tuesday and Friday at The Anchors and Grace Church’s lobster rolls. There will also be a trip to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum to see the new Harbor View Hotel exhibit and, if the tide cooperates, some quahogging down at Katama.

Calling all artists: the annual All Island Art Show will be held on Monday, August 4, at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs. All the information you need to participate is on the new website. Go immediately, if not sooner, to allislandartshow.wordpress.com, there is no entrance fee this year so the committee wants to see all Island affiliated artists there. For information the old fashioned way, call Harvey Beth at 508-693-0371.

On Wednesday, July 23, the Adult and Community Education (ACE MV) from 11 a.m. to noon will have a Relaxed Body, Open Mind, Deep Rest meditation/stretch class with Martha Abbot at the Yoga Barn. For information and to register, you can go to acemv.org or email lynn@acemv.org or call 508-693-9222.
