In the warm weather here you can wear a short sleeve shirt, long sleeves, shorts or pants. There isa  blue sky and a soft breeze — perfect. Who could ask for more?

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to William Regan who celebrated June 21; Carlos Arellano and Isabelle Murphy, June 23; Juliette Forgette and Loralei Forgette, June 24; Elizabeth Pate, June 25; Amber Cuthbert, Rowan Gruffydd, Isabella Vasiliadis, June 26 and to Phoebe Griffins who celebrated her day June 27.

I have known my friend Jan Norton since 1979. We rode our horses together; we walked our dogs every day in the field behind her house. We have been through birthdays, weddings and even funerals. Yet every year, when her birthday comes along on June 20, I always forget. And this year is no different, so a very special happy birthday to Jan, and here is to many more.

Well, besides the weather showing its summer face, so is the Island. Every cash register at the Stop and Shop is going, the line at the triangle is getting longer, and you have to drive around town a few times for a parking space. But it is not a bad thing. You just have to adjust your time and know that what used to take you five minutes now takes 20 minutes.

Congratulations to the Edgartown School eighth graders who graduated to high school last Friday night. They are out of school a week before the rest of the classes, and you can see the changes on the faces going to school. Friday is game day and then school is out for summer.

Paula Smith was asked by her company to do an assignment in London for three years. So she and her husband Drew packed up and moved to London. Since they have been there, they have had many visitors and many adventures. Watching their travels and places they visited on Facebook was very interesting. So now, even though it has only been two years, Paula has been asked to come back to the U.S. for another assignment.

They live in the Boston area, but they have a home here in Edgartown, and their backyard is just behind my back door. I always know when they are here because their back light is on. So, I am looking forward to July 4th so I can see the light. Welcome back to the states and hope to hear some more stories of your travels.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
