Sailing

The sailing team has moved to a 6-4 season record. Last Saturday the team sailed in a quad meet against Belmont Hill, Dennis-Yarmouth and Tabor Academy, sweeping the first two teams 3-0, 3-0 before falling to Tabor. Still, head coach Andrew Burr said the Vineyard sailed well against the longstanding powerhouse.

“That’s what you want to see, is that we are competitive with the top-tier schools in New England,” he said.

On Sunday the team took on Hotchkiss, St. George’s and North Kingston. The Vineyard sailed well against, but ultimately fell to the North Kingston Skippers. St. George’s was undefeated.

The Vineyarders beat Dartmouth in their opening meet two weeks ago and swept Nauset and Monomoy. Last Tuesday, they earned a 3-0 win against Pope John Paul 2nd.

In the 400-metre hurdles, sophomore Kevin Montambault ran a 1:07 to take eighth place in the boys’ run, and sophomore Nicole Pearson took 14th in the girls’ run with a time of 1:20. Boys’ Lacrosse

The young team turned in its best performance of the season on Wednesday against Littleton, pushing the game into double overtime before falling 6-5. Head coach Chris Greene described the game as a back-and-forth struggle, with the Vineyard showing improvement in possession and doing a good job picking up ground balls. Senior Thomas Wilkins and junior Sam Burke each scored two goals, with Burke picking up an assist as well. Senior captain Nick Costello had one goal and one assist, and seniors Huck Burke and Marc Natichioni had one assist each. Freshman goalie Eli Lakin was 8 for 14 in the net.

“If we can continue to find confidence offensively, I think a win is around the corner,” Coach Greene said.
