More than a week after a two-car accident on the Fourth of July that proved fatal, two people involved in the accident remain in Boston hospitals.

Seth Jones, 26, of Dummer, N.H., was listed in serious condition at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston on Thursday, a hospital spokesman said. His mother, Margaret Jones, 51, was listed in good condition.

On Saturday, Mr. Jones’ girlfriend, Heather L. Laflamme, 21, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after she was critically injured in the car accident on Barnes Road.

On July 4 Ms. Laflamme and three members of the Jones family were riding in a red 2012 Jeep Wrangler on Barnes Road that collided with a black 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan. The driver of the Tiguan was Benjamin T. Johnson, 19, of Cambridge. Mr. Johnson and Thomas C. Jones, 51, of New Hampshire and the driver of the Jeep, were both treated and later released at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

According to state police, the Jeep was traveling on Barnes Road just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday when the driver began to make a U-turn and was apparently broadsided by the Volkswagen.

An ongoing investigation by state police from the Oak Bluffs barracks and the state police collision analysis and reconstruction section will determine whether criminal charges and civil motor vehicle citations are warranted.

The Cape and Islands district attorney’s office is also investigating the accident.

In a press release Monday, state police said the right-side placement of the Jeep’s steering wheel and the speed of the Volkswagen are being investigated as potential factors in the accident.

A service for Ms. Laflamme, who was a rising senior and dean’s list student at the University of New Hampshire, is planned for Saturday at the St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin, N.H.

Friends and family of the those involved have used the Gazette website to communicate with each other and reach out to those who were on the scene of the accident to thank them for providing help and comfort to Ms. Laflamme and Mr. Jones.

In Berlin, the community is rallying around those involved. “Every business in town has a jar [collecting money],” said Michael (Stump) Legere, a bartender at Fagin’s Pub in Berlin. “People are coming out of the woodwork.”

Mr. Legere, reached by phone at the pub, said there was a car wash Thursday to raise money, and a spaghetti dinner is planned for Sunday. A benefit dance and a ham and bean dinner are in the works for next week, he said.

The money will go to the Jones and the Laflamme families, he said. He said the pub would welcome donations; the address is 777 Main street, Berlin, N.H., 03570, and the telephone number is 603-752-3744.
