I woke up on Tuesday morning and thought I slept until July. We always say dress in layers so you can take clothes off or put them on as the case may be. But I was not prepared for 75 degree weather. As much as we love the sunshine, we do need some rain, as things are getting very dry and we are already watering everyday.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their birthday this past week. Big balloons go out to Dennis Goulart, Juan Roa Sanchez, and Thomas Weston, who all celebrated their day April 14; Elon Binder and Paulo Pereira, April 15; Brant Maynard, April 16; Sophia Grazioso, Kenneth Hatt, and Sania Magaraci, April 17; Dyana Burke, April 18, and to John Cataloni, who celebrated his day April 19.

It has been a quiet week around this house as the kids are on vacation and there are no cars and no kids going by the house. Harry, my little dog, has nobody to bark at. He looks and waits and I swear he knows the exact time each kid goes by the house. The kids also look for him and some stand at the end of the walkway and wave, which makes him bark even more. But he has been lonesome this week and it has been very pleasantly quiet.

I have been reading the post on Facebook and can’t wait to report the people who have been on vacation. They are all posting pictures and look like they are having a great time. I don’t like to report while they are away, as that gives a hint of whose house is empty.

Jodie Falkenburg, a tour guide for the Campground visitors, will speak at the luncheon sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living on Saturday, April 21 from noon to 2 p.m. at The Grill on Main. The cost is $25. Jodie will have many large photographic posters to enhance her remarks. She will be joined by Bob and Lynn Gatchell, who have photographed and written two books about the architectural style of the cottages, carpenter gotchic.

Ralph and I were passing Sweetened Water Pond and all you could here was pinkletinks. They were so loud, but Ralph could not hear them. We went to the Dolbys’ house and were surrounded by them, but still he couldn’t hear them. Sometimes I think if you stand in one place at night and close your eyes you feel like you are in a scary movie.

Speaking of pinkletinks: Felix Neck is having a Pinkletink Pizza Party on Friday, April 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for members, $3 for member children, $7 for nonmember adults and $5 for nonmember children. Registration is required.

Facebook has been fun reading this week. There is a page called I Grew Up on Martha’s Vineyard, with many posts remembering how it was to be a child of the Vineyard. There is talk of the coin divers at the ferries, the fire horns, of not dialing the phone and telling the operator your number. There was the Portside in Vineyard Haven; the old Dairy Queen, where the parking lot is at the Stop & Shop; Dock dances, and the list go on and on. It sure brings back some great memories.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
