Tyler Bellis, his wife Carrie Anne Vanderhoop, and their daughter, Rosalie, arrived from British Columbia to spend the holiday with family and friends.

Bill and Joan Kistner returned to their home in New York on Tuesday morning after spending the past week with our grandson, Noah James Manning, and with their daughter, Theresa, and her husband, Paul. Many wonderful dinners with family and friends all week.

Congratulations to Ella Madison Mahoney who is on the high school honor roll for the first quarter of 2011.

Noah James Manning recently spent the weekend in Lincoln, N.H., with his parents, Paul and Theresa, with his close friend, Oono Buresch Carroll, her sister, Emme, and their parents, Christopher and Kendra Buresch Carroll, and their cousins, Brooks and Bradley Carroll, with their parents, Marshall and Katie Tamoshunas Carroll, and another Flanders cousin, Bella Thorpe, and her mother, Julianna Flanders. They all enjoyed the weekend with a visit and travel on the Polar Express to see Santa and each received a bell. Joyful meals together, lots of shopping, very little snow for sledding, a visit to the candy store and a very good time was had by all.

Theresa Manning was honored by her friends and family on Dec. 22 for her birthday. About 50 of her closest friends and relations were invited to the surprise party planned for her by Mary Ibsen, Nonie Madison, and Alexandra Taylor. A grand time was had by all.

Get well wishes to Clovis Smith who recently had his full body cast removed following a fracture of his leg in an accidental fall which was rather scary for the eight-month-old.

Emmett Cole Taylor welcomed his extended Hoye family, who gathered in Aquinnah to celebrate Christmas with him and his parents, Isaac and Noli Taylor. Emmett’s grandparents, Charley Hoye and Kathie Olsen, arrived from Oregon. Noli’s sister, Laurie, and her husband, Anil, and their son, Kavi Dewan, arrived from California and Noli’s brother, Alex Hoye, arrived from England. They all enjoyed their Christmas with two-and-a half-year-old Emmett.

Congratulations and a big thank you to Noli Taylor for her presentation at the Chilmark Community Center. Thanks in part to her tireless efforts, the children in the up-Island school district will hopefully have nutritious foods that will be prepared at the West Tisbury School. The school committee agreed to fund renovations of the kitchen at the West Tisbury School. This will now be on the agenda for our annual town meetings in the spring.

Capt. Hugh Taylor and his wife, Jeanne, arrived home over the weekend for a Christmas visit with their children, Alexandra, and her husband, Shawn MacPhail, and their twin daughters, Olive and Violet, and their son, Isaac, and his wife, Noli and their son Emmet. Hugh and Jeanne also visited with their extended family while here for the holidays.

Welcome home to Zachary Wallen who has recently been in the Bahamas. He has been away for most of the year and has traveled to some of the most interesting parts of the world, stopping at the Arctic, the Middle East, and many points in between. Zachary is now home for a few months with his brother, Nicholas, and their father, Jim Wallen, while they work on the completion of a new home for their aunt, Barbara Wallen, and her husband, Gary Paraboschi. Their mother, Kathy Smith, is spending the year in Taiwan as a teacher and looks forward to a long visit from Jim over the winter.

Phil and Penny Weinstein were delighted to have their daughter, Liz, and adorable grandchildren, Marina, Eliza, and Nathaniel, arrive from Newton for a holiday visit. Dr. Christopher Hartnick was unable to visit due to his busy schedule at Mass Eye and Ear. They all traveled to Manhattan for Christmas.

Congratulations to Jesse Wiener, son of Jerry Wiener and Carolyn Feltz, who has made his Broadway debut. Jesse was recently the stand-in assistant music director for Godspell while playing piano and guitar. He noted it was a great experience and had a great time. The conductor was pleased with Jesse and his talent and will definitely call him back as needed. At the annual Minnesingers concert at the Old Whaling Church, director Jan Wightman also presented Jesse’s version of Ave Maria to the delight of the audience. Jesse and his wife, Maggie, spent their holiday on the Cape with her parents while his parents, Jerry and Carolyn, went to New Jersey to be with her father.

Welcome home to our troops after many years of serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. We will welcome Matthew Bradley back to the Vineyard in the next few weeks from Iraq. Thank you Matthew and to all who have served to protect our freedom.

It would be most appreciated if you would donate to nonprofits across the Vineyard who serve so many people under their auspices. Your gift is graciously appreciated by all, the amount is up to you as you carefully select your end of the year giving.

Happy 20th anniversary wishes to Richard Skidmore and his bride, Joan LeLacheur, who will celebrate their special day on Dec. 31.

A very special happy birthday wish to Linda Maida Coutinho, who will observe a major milestone on Jan. 1. It is hard to believe but on occasion I would babysit for Linda when she was an infant.
