Shotgun deer-hunting season began Monday morning and will continue for two weeks.

Hunting is allowed daily, except for Sunday, from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset.

Both hunters and those who plan to enter the woods should wear bright orange to make themselves visible.

Hunters are required to check in their deer with officials at one of three places. The Manuel F. Correllus State Forest has a deer check-in near the headquarters and it will be open for the first week of the season. Larry’s Tackle Shop in Edgartown and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) will also do check-ins.
