Steamship Authority management confirmed this week that an investigation is under way involving three former employees who may have been skimming money from parking receipts at the Palmer avenue lot in Falmouth.

SSA general manager Wayne Lamson said yesterday that the three employees under investigation, who have not been named, were fired. Information has been turned over to state police and no arrests have been made, Mr. Lamson said.

He said one of the employees had worked at the boat line for two years and may have taken up to $2,000 in small amounts over a period of time. The amount of money allegedly stolen by two other employees is unknown, Mr. Lamson said.

“We have fired three employees as a result of our investigation. We received a tip that there might be a scheme and we were able to uncover some irregularities. It wasn’t a one-time incident, it was a few bucks here, a few there. We’ve called in the state police and evidence has been turned over to them,” the general manager said.

Mr. Lamson said as far as he knew it was an isolated incident and no other parking lots or employees were involved.

He said the three employees were represented by the Teamsters union. “My experience has been when someone is caught stealing and we terminate them, the union supports that and does not look to have the employee reinstated,” Mr. Lamson said.
