A community organization has formed calling itself Island Climate Action Network (ICAN). The purpose of the group is to promote awareness about the local effects of climate change and to educate and act to:

• Adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.

• Create greater community resilience regarding climate-related issues that affect our community’s well-being and economic future.

• Support policies at the local, regional, state, and federal level that contribute to a sustainable future.

Moving Planet Moving Island will be a day to join with others who are calling attention to the need to go beyond fossil fuels. The Island Climate Action Network (ICAN) is hosting this local event as part of a worldwide effort by 350.org to bring attention to alternative transportation issues.

Join the parade at Veterans Park in Vineyard Haven at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the softball field parking lot off Lagoon Pond Road. Follow the crowd to Grace Church for an open forum discussion about alternative transportation on the Vineyard. All are welcome and invited to bring ideas, be heard and help shape the future of the Island. Wearing a blue shirt will signify that you are part of this event.
