The mayor of Newton and Democratic candidate for the United States Senate in 2012, Setti Warren, will visit the next meeting of the Martha’s Vineyard Democratic Council on Saturday, August 13, at 9 a.m., at the Howes House in West Tisbury. The public is invited to attend.

It is the first of a planned program to bring all the Democratic Senatorial candidates to the Island over the next few months.

Mr. Warren spoke at the recent Democratic State Convention in Lowell, which was focussed on strengthening the Democratic party’s organizing efforts for next year’s national and state campaigns.

Oak Bluffs’s Margaret Stafursky, a frequent convention delegate, said “Setti Warren is rooted, brilliant, confident, a veteran and definitely worth watching.”

Karen Achille, also from Oak Bluffs and a first-time delegate, said Mr. Warren “engages you as a person and will be an excellent campaigner.”

Zee Gamson, of Chilmark, said her major criterion was going to be, “Who can stand up to Scott Brown and attract voters of all ages?” and that Mr. Warren has what she described as “star power.”
