On the Chappy Wire

NStar has reached a preliminary agreement with Comcast to bring cable and Internet service to Chappaquiddick, Edgartown town administrator Pamela Dolby said this week.

At the selectmen’s weekly meeting on Monday Mrs. Dolby said negotiations were ongoing to finalize a new contract with Comcast but Chappaquiddick was not being forgotten. The town assessor’s office is working with the cable company to count how many housing units are on the neighboring island.

NStar representative Mike Durand said the agreement was only in the early stages and would not speculate on the details or outcome of the negotiations.

In other business, the selectmen set a public hearing for August 22 to cancel Great Harbor Gourmet’s liquor license for nonuse. After several deferred opening requests, the liquor store said they would be open by August 3 but the store remains closed.

Selectmen also accepted the withdrawal of the Greenhouse restaurant’s seasonal beer and wine license. The new restaurant will not open for the 2011 season.
