Each week of late there has been a gallery stroll at one of the down-Island towns. Excellent. Plenty of opportunity for an artist date, as Julie Cameron calls it in her book The Artist’s Way. The idea being that if you take the time out of your busy lives to experience art your own creativity will blossom.

The art is for sale, too, so if truly inspired bring the work home with you.

Tonight, July 15, Vineyard Haven steps up to the plate. Galleries will be open and serving snacks, the Irie Bites food truck will also be serving tasty vibes, from 5 to 8 p.m.

But what about those of us up-Island who are afraid of crowds? Never fear, there is a gallery for you.

On Sunday, July 17, the Turpentine Gallery in West Tisbury is throwing a grand opening party from 4 to 8 p.m. The gallery is located at 553 State Road near Vineyard Gardens and State Road Restaurant.

Turpentine Gallery (the name brings to mind the olfactory sense memory of taking off paint rather than layering it on) is the gallery extension of artist Mitch Gordon. This first show is entitled A Day at the Beach and features Mr. Gordon’s paintings and sculptures.
