A Coral Gables, Fla., woman remained in critical condition in a Boston hospital Monday after she was struck by a car while crossing Upper Main street in Edgartown on foot on Saturday night.

Patricia Guarch, 22, who is working at the Vineyard Arts Project on Upper Main street for the summer, was crossing the street on her way to get ice cream, just after 10 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a 2010 Subaru Outback. The driver of the car was Robert Franklin, 85, of Vineyard Haven.

Ms. Guarch was transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with multiple injuries and later airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Edgartown police said.

Police said yesterday that Dr. Franklin was cited at the scene for speed greater than reasonable, crosswalk violation and negligent operation. Further charges are pending the results of an investigation, police said.

The Massachusetts state police accident reconstruction team arrived on the scene on Sunday; the accident remains under investigation by Edgartown and state police.

Police, fire, ambulance and rescue personnel all responded to the scene.

Ashley Melone, founder and artistic director of the Vineyard Arts Project, said yesterday that Ms. Guarch, a recent graduate of New York University, has worked with the arts project for the past few years as a graphic designer and administrative assistant. “She is a talented writer and designer and recent graduate of the Gallatin School at NYU,” Ms. Melone said in an e-mail to the Gazette on Monday. “She has been an integral part of our creative team for the past two years. She is a beautiful young woman, bursting with life, and Saturday night was devastating for the entire Vineyard Arts Project family. We had just finished the final performance of our New Writers, New Plays festival and Pati was walking to the Dairy Queen with some of the artists in residence when she was hit.”
