Ready for the 150th Agricultural Fair? A reminder that this year there is an early deadline for some special entries. Forms are available at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury; there is a box of them on the porch, with all the information about special entries and entering the special parade set for Tuesday, August 16. The deadline for parade and special entries is June 1. The fair theme this year is Timeless Traditions.

The special classes come from our fair book of 150 years ago. The special agricultural classes include: vegetable farm/garden, fruit farm/garden, cultivated forage crops and manures (with and without kelp and seaweed). For these categories, a committee will visit to judge each location prior to the fair.

Other special agricultural classes include: cheese (refrigeration available) and quince.

Some special classes come under the heading Yankee Ingenuity: lace work, wax work, tidy (chair back cover), work boxes, and articles made of reed or willow.

There will be two classes of special flower arrangements: using a pitcher or “South Beach” arrangement in a shell.

A Ploughing Match (by 1900 the spelling was changed to plowing), for the best performance in ploughing with horses or oxen, with or without a driver, will beheld, with a designated area to be prepared for the match.

There is also a golden wedding contest, with classes for the couple married longest, with most living children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
