From Fashion to Flowers, with Tea

Bigger tent, more tables, supersized teapot? Well, the first two at least as Featherstone Center for the Arts ushers in their second annual Tea Party and Fashion Show on Saturday, May 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event was such a success last year that they had to go bigger, much bigger. More than 20 Island businesses are dressing models to strut down the catwalk while folks sip tea and munch all sorts of tea-related goodies, from tea sandwiches to tea cakes. No word yet on whether anyone will be on hand to read the tea leaves.

The event is also an opportunity to be the first to check out the Art of Flowers exhibit, which will have its official opening reception on Sunday, May 8 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The flower show was curated by Holly Alaimo, who sent out essentially an open call to artists with just one caveat: The piece has to focus on flowers. The exhibit includes, at press time, more than 25 Island (year-round or summer visiting) artists but it is still evolving. The mediums represented include painting, photography, fabric collage, quilting and sculpture, to name just a few.

The cost for the tea party and fashion show is $25 per person.
