The scientists have been out counting and next week the results are coming in for two separate studies.

On Monday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Jesse H. Ausubel of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Rockefeller University in New York city will present the findings of the first-ever census of marine life. This decade-long undertaking involved more than 500 expeditions worldwide and created the first integrated view of the diversity, distribution and abundance of marine life ranging from microbes to whales in all ocean realms. The talk will be held at the Vineyard Haven Public Library.

And on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. Dr. Paul Goldstein will present the first year results of the Trustees of Reservations’ effort to document the Island’s native pollinators. The inventory and research project covered a wide range of habitats with nearly 10,000 specimens of bees collected, prepared and labeled, and 130 species (and counting) of bees identified. This talk will be held at the Wakeman Conservation Center on Lambert’s Cove Road.
