Author and garden historian Judith Taylor will give a talk on the historic and global migration of plants on Wednesday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Polly Hill Arboretum.

No matter where you live or garden it is likely many of the plants you select are descended from Asian, South American, European, African or Australian plants imported here many years ago. In this talk Ms. Taylor traces the journey of familiar garden plants from their far-flung roots to our backyards. In her book, The Global Migrations of Ornamental Plants: How the World Got Into Your Garden, she presents the politics, commercial trends and fashions that resulted in today’s global floral colonization.

A retired physician turned horticultural historian, Ms. Taylor and has written three other books on plant and garden history. This lecture is sponsored by SBS and the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council. The cost is $10, or $5 for arboretum members.
