In Sympathy

The Oak Bluffs selectmen called for a moment of silence at their meeting Tuesday night for Steve Myrick, whose teenage daughter was murdered at Fitchburg State College last weekend.

Allison Myrick, 19, was a student at the college. The incident, which took place on Saturday in Shirley, was apparently linked to an abusive relationship and was widely reported in the regional press throughout the weekend. Ms. Myrick’s boyfriend has been arrested and charged with first degree murder.

Mr. Myrick is a reporter for the Martha’s Vineyard Times. “Our hearts go out to Steve and his family during what is, I am sure, a very difficult time,” said Oak Bluffs selectman Ron DiOrio.
