Please Adopt Us

A couple of weeks ago a young man named Max had a birthday party, and he asked his friends and relatives to make a donation to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard instead of giving him gifts. He collected $170. Congratulations Max and thank you from all the animals at the shelter — what a great idea!

The shelter animals this week are joined by two very sweet beagles: Vito, who is brown and white, and Louie, who is tricolored. They need some training, but with patience and time they will make very good pets. It would be great if they could be adopted together because they have become closely bonded.

Shelter cats available for adoption are: Oreo, a big, sweet black and white neutered male with four double paws who loves people and is learning to get along with the other cats; Sky, a part-Siamese with beautiful blue eyes; Max, who is mostly white and his cage mate Phoebe, who is a shy, gentle tiger (they would love to be adopted together); Squibby, the tiger tabby Manx ; Shady, an all-black, green-eyed feline; Ladybug and Stripes, the two tiger tabbies; Owl, the purebred all-white Persian; and Pearl, the geriatric white female who would love a soft couch or a fireplace to sit in frontof. All the cats have been neutered or spayed and are up to date on all their s hots.

The shelter has established a new fund called the Susie Fund, named after our special Labrador who was adopted after several weeks of intensive medical treatment for a serious skin condition cause by neglect. Susie is now well and healthy and owned by a wonderful couple who love her and have given her that forever home we wish for all our animals. You will see Susie in the parade on Saturday riding with her new person. The Susie Fund will provide medical care for animals who come to us with conditions requiring veterinary care not covered by the shelter. Donations may be sent to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, P.O. Box 190, Edgartown MA 02539 with a notation for the Susie Fund.

And don’t forget the tree of lights at the shelter to honor an animal or person; each light is $10.

One final reminder: if you lose a pet, be sure to call your animal control officer. The number to call is 508-693-1212; or call the shelter at 508-627-8662.

Happy holidays from all the shelter staff. Please call for holiday hours.
