Vineyard environmentalists invite all to a rally on Saturday, Dec.12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a Five Corners in Vineyard Haven, joining with 350.org to urge global leaders for real progress at the climate change summit in Copenhagen.

“Specifically, our rally will urge President Obama to commit to lowering CO2 levels from the present 387 ppm level (parts per million) back to a sustainable 350 ppm level,” said longtime activist Joan Ames.

“If [President Obama] and his kids expect to vacation on Martha’s Vineyard well into the future, he needs to be a true leader at Copenhagen,” Chris Fried of the Martha’s Vineyard Peace Council said.

To illustrate the risk of sea level rise, rally participants are encouraged to bring a mask and snorkel. For details, call 508-693-7741 or visit the Web site 350.org.
