Please Adopt Us

For a brief time this week the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard had a tiny light brown Chihuahua that had been at the Edgartown dog pound for several days. It turned out that the Chihuahua’s owner was away and when the dog became lost the person who was caring for him did not know to call the animal control officer.

So the dog is now happily reunited with his owner. And the incident serves as a good reminder to all: if you lose a pet be sure to call your local animal control officer to report it. The number at the communications center is 508-693-1212.

Meanwhile, back at the shelter the cats are all settled in and even allowed to get out of their cages for exercise; they all seem to get along well together but they would be so much happier in a home by a fireplace or on a comfy couch or a soft lap. Cats available for adoption are: Sky, the part Siamese with beautiful blue eyes; Squibby, the tiger tabby Manx; Oreo, the black and white big boy with four double paws; Max, the shy mostly white sweet boy and his friend Phoebe, the tiger (at first they were inseparable, but now they seem to have found their own private sleeping spot away from each other); Ladybug and Stripes, two really friendly tiger tabbies; Pearl, an all-white geriatric cat who would love to curl up by the fire or on a lap; and Shady, the all-black spayed female with declawed front paws.

Won’t you please stop by and see our beautiful cats and maybe take one home for Christmas?

Here is a wonderful heart-warming story about a 10-year-old boy named Max who for his birthday asked all his friends to make a donation to the animal shelter instead of bringing presents to his party. They raised $170! What a great idea, and many thanks to Max — come visit us some day soon.

Shelter hours are back to normal following the Thanksgiving holiday: Wednesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
