On Memorial Day, May 25, from noon to 4 p.m., the entire Vineyard community is invited to the annual Memorial Day picnic at the Tashmoo Spring Pumping Station on State Road in Vineyard Haven. Formerly known as the old Tisbury Waterworks, the Tashmoo Spring Pumping Station is now included in the National Registry of Historic Places, and is currently undergoing an extensive restoration process.

Families and individuals are invited to bring a picnic lunch, settle in, and enjoy rowboating on the pond, children’s games, pony rides for the very young, and free lemonade and ice cream cones.

Grilling chefs will be on hand, and live music will be provided by two groups, Tristan Israel and friends, and the Flying Elbows, who will perform bluegrass music for their 28th consecutive appearance at this event.

Lincoln Hanson of Vineyard Haven will be honored this year for his many years of work organizing and grilling at the picnic. Linc’s fellow organizer, Isabel West, was honored last Memorial Day for her many years of service on the picnic committee.

Please note that VTA buses (on their regular routes) will be stopping at the Tashmoo Overlook on State Road from noon to 4 p.m. to drop off and pick up passengers.

In case of rain the picnic will be held the following Sunday, May 31.
