While much of the world is donning masks at the thought of a certain airborne contagion, the swine will soar with pride this Saturday, when the Eisenhauer Gallery holds a special exhibit, When Pigs Fly, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 38 North Water street in Edgartown.

Owner Elizabeth Eisenhauer explains, “We are blending the strength of renowned artist Cheri Christensen, an important American painter, with the need for educational funds for Island children to learn where food comes from.”

The gallery will donate 10 per cent of the exhibition proceeds to the Farm Institute’s Island scholarship fund, and all buyers will be invited to the institute for breakfast and to meet some of Ms. Christiansen’s animal subjects.

Additionally, the show features still life paintings by realist painter David Gray and cityscapes by Denver’s Jill Soukup, and live jazz by Jeremy Berlin and Eric Johnson.

“This exhibit and the generosity of the Eisenhauer Gallery is just one example of how nonprofits and for-profits can support each other,” says Rob Goldfarb, development director of the Farm Institute.

“We believe for future generations to care about farming, healthy food, and our communities, they must experience the people and places that produce their food.”

So when these pigs fly, Island kids get the chance to go to summer camp and to other farm programs.
