With Duarte's Pond was stocked with more than 1,000 trout, children and their families gathered at the pond before dawn Saturday, fishing poles in hand. It was time for annual kids' trout tournament sponsored by the Martha's Vineyard Rod and Gun Club. While fun was had by all, with hot dogs, hot chocolate and doughnuts on hand, some of the youngest fishermen took home the big prizes at the tournament. Zachary Townes, age five, won the prize for largest trout with his 18-inch tiget trout, and Amber Ventura, age six, snagged the largest fish, a 21-inch pickerel.
