Some School H1N1 Clinics Set for Monday

School children on Martha’s Vineyard will begin receiving inoculations against swine flu next week, with the first three clinics set for Monday, Nov. 9.

The clinics will be for students at the Chilmark, West Tisbury and Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter Schools.

The respective schools now are in the process of notifying parents and sending out permission forms.

A statement from the Martha’s Vineyard Public Health Coalition released Tuesday, said the three smaller schools were selected on the basis of the limited quantities of vaccine available.

Delays in the manufacture of the vaccine against the H1N1 virus, which causes swine flu, have led to national shortages. The disease now is widespread across the country, and the Island.

The statement did not say how long it might be before further supplies of vaccine arrive.
