The 11 a.m. M/V Katama freight boat from Oak Bluffs and its 12:15 p.m. return trip to Woods Hole will be diverted to Oak Bluffs, the Steamship Authority has announced. For the latest travel updates, visit steamshipauthority.com.
The brick lighthouse dates to 1856 and today sits perilously near the edge of a rapidly eroding cliff at the Island’s westernmost edge. It is slated to be moved sometime in the next two years.
Improved cell phone service will becoming to West Tisbury after the town zoning board of appeals approved a special permit for a tower off New Lane, near Tisbury Great Pond.
The board approved a 66 foot monopine for Verizon at their monthly meeting last Thursday, board chairman Tucker Hubbell said. The monopine will have fiberglass branches and a pole painted brown to resemble a pine tree.
Edgartown School students joined town and library officials Monday to celebrate the first visible marker of Edgartown’s new library: a sign announcing the beginning of the project.
A group of students from kindergarten, first grade and third grade at the school posted for a picture in front of a sign that says: “Watch your new library being built here”.
For some, it was a business evening; for others, a chance to rub elbows with the who’s-who of the Island community. Whether they came to collect awards or simply enjoy the festivities, crowds packed Flatbread Monday night for the unveiling of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine’s Best of the Vineyard.
Todd Ruggere sat by himself at the bar of the Plane View Restaurant at Martha’s Vineyard Airport. Normally his visits cause quite a stir, but it was a Wednesday afternoon and nobody knew he was coming — he just needed a place to get a beer.
Mr. Ruggere is touring the state of Massachusetts and drinking a beer in each of the 351 towns, all in under a year.
